I know I’m overly critical of lipsticks (hense why this website was born). I always kind of love it when I have a different opinion to mass love of a product. The Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks get recommended to me regularly as peoples favorite so I had to put it to the test.

The *Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Carina is a bright orange matte liquid lipstick. It retails for $22 and is part of the permanent Stila line.
Straight off the doe foot the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Carina is something like a thin-ish paint. It’s certainly thicker than something like the Lancome Matte Shakers, but not nearly as thick as something like the Too Faced Melted Liquid Lipsticks. It’s easy to spread instantly (but that’s more because the packaging makes the doe foot super juicy). My only complaint with the texture is that it isn’t perfectly smooth. You can see in the photo below what I’m talking about. Like, it’s there, it’s liquidy, you can see how it applied a ton of product, but it’s not perfectly smooth.

It’s time to complain! I can’t for the life of me get the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick on with any ease. I’ve tried it five times more or less, and not a one has been smooth sailing. Putting on lipstick is basically one of my jobs at this point, it shouldn’t be that hard.
The main issue I have with the application is that it doesn’t layer well, and it starts to dry as you go. Normally drying quickly wouldn’t be an issue, but coupled with the layering issue and things get a little tricky. When I wear a bold lip like this Stila shade, I want a super crisp line without having to go back and clean things up with concealer. But, because you can clearly see patchiness when layering, it makes it hard to fix mistakes as you go.
I tried to help this lipstick spread onto my lips by doing the whole smoosh your lips together business, and by working it in with a finger and it definitely helped make the application go more smoothly.
Shockingly, for a long wear lipstick (that actually wears for a long time) this comes off easily. I expected I would need to use an oil based cleanser to get off this lipstick but it came off fine with my BFF, Bioderma.
The Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick packaging is simple and effective. Inside liquid lipstick packaging (similar to mascara) there is essentially a narrow hole the doe foot needs to go through that takes off some of the product. This one, in particular, leaves a ton of product on the doe foot (you can see it’s all the way up the wand) but I don’t particularly mind. It isn’t so much that it’s unwieldy, just maybe more than you are used to. I haven’t had any issues with leaking or not being able to close the cap tightly.
Let’s roll on over to the brand’s own website and see what they have to say about the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick.
The long list of major claims made are:
Creamy-matte – Yep! It’s creamy, not chalky, and is matte without any shine.Full coverage/bold color – Very nearly so I won’t complain here. The color Carina which they describe as vibrant coral, is certainly bold and bright.Long lasting (up to 6 hours) – Besides the crackly lip issue, it does wear well for over six hours. Is your day done in six hours? Probably not! But hey, 6 hours is a safe claim for a long wearing lipstick on Stila’s part.Weightless and comfortable – Sure. I would think with the thickness and somewhat paint-like texture that it would feel heavy. You do feel it on your lips because it’s matte and if you think about feeling things on your lips you will. Will not bleed or transfer – This does not bleed but I rarely have issues with bleeding. It does transfer a tiny amount, especially if oily foods are involved but not bad.Softens lips – Probably not? It’s not overtly dehydrating like some chalky liquid lipsticks but I wouldn’t reach for this to keep my lips hydrated. At most I’d say it’s neither hydrating or dehydrating. No raisin lips her.
With all that in mind, I have to give Stila credit for having a ton of claims listed and met (or at least nearly met). Not too shabby.
