Vizio remote not working can be caused by drained device batteries, blocked TV sensors, remote and TV power residue, unclean power supply, trapped remote memory, and even issues with the TV itself.

When compared to other remotes, the Vizio remote is more important for TV use because it includes ‘Smart TV’ capabilities that allow you to utilize and browse many applications.

What Causes the Vizio Remote to Fail?

Our team of specialists was able to identify the following causes of “Vizio Remote not Working” after a thorough examination of user reports.

  • Batteries That Have Been Powered Down: If the batteries in the Vizio remote have been powered down, you won’t be able to use it.
  • Blocked TV Sensor: This error occurs when the IR beam cannot reach the TV owing to an obstruction between the remote and the TV sensor.
  • Electronic Interference: If other nearby devices emit radiation that interferes with the IR ray of the remote, you may experience the current mistake.
  • Dirty Power Source: If the TV’s power source is supplying dirty power to the system, you may be experiencing the current issue.
  • TV and Remote Power Residues: If the remote or TV have power residues that hinder their capacity to send or translate the IR beam, you may be experiencing the current problem.
  • Stuck Remote Memory: If the remote’s memory has become stuck on a specific place or device, you may experience troubles similar to the current one.
  • Defective TV: If your television has become faulty, you may be affected by the problem.

How to check the TV remote

Before we move on to the answers, we need to double-check that the remote is generating infrared light (if you are using an IR remote). A simple camera test can be used to accomplish this. A digital camera or a camera on a mobile phone can be used.

  • Step 1: Turn on the camera and then look through the screen at the remote control unit.
  • Step 2: Point the remote control’s end (the one that is ordinarily directed towards the TV) towards the camera.

  • Step 3: If you press and hold any button on the remote, you should see a light flashing from the IR LED at the end of the remote on the screen of your camera.
  • Step 4: Check all of the buttons on the remote, particularly the Power and Volume buttons, to check whether they work.

If none of the buttons operate, the remote may be defective (trying the last solution might solve the problem or otherwise take it to a repair shop or buy a new one). If only a few buttons aren’t working, it’s possible that their contacts are filthy or worn out from use (take them to a repair shop or buy a new one). If all of the buttons are functional, you can move on to the next step in the troubleshooting procedure.

How Do I Repair My Vizio TV Remote?

Restart the remote control

Power residues, or, to put it another way, power residues, can cause the Vizio remote to stop operating. Even if you are not using the remote, power cycling resets it and drains any remaining power leftovers. The purpose of power cycling is to ensure that any temporary configurations are entirely reset. Any erroneous configurations in the remote may be fixed as a result of this. This may help free a stuck button on the remote that you weren’t aware of.

  • Step 1: Take the batteries out of the remote control.

  • Step 2: Press and hold the power button on the remote. The button is usually near the top of the remote control.

  • Step 3: After five seconds, release the power button. Any remaining power will be taken from the remote.
  • Step 4: At least once, press each button on the remote. This will aid in the loosening of any jammed buttons. Make careful you remove any buttons on the remote that are stuck in a permanently pressed position; otherwise, the remote control will not respond to any other input from the user.
  • Step 5: Replace the batteries in your remote control.

Restart the television

If a Vizio TV is in an incorrect state or any of its parameters aren’t operating, it may become unresponsive to all inputs, including changing the channel using the remote control. The problem could be resolved by power cycling the television. In the last article, we used the same methodology.

  • Step 1: Remove the TV from the wall outlet.
  • Step 2: For 30 seconds, press and hold the TV’s power button (typically on the side), which will drain the TV’s residual power and may resolve the strange issues.
  • Step 3: Please wait one minute.
  • Step 4: Reconnect the TV to the power source and turn it on.

Clear the memory by resetting the remote (Universal Remotes)

The memory stuck on a certain point or device is a more prevalent fault with Vizio Universal Remotes. If that’s the case, resetting the remotes might help. Non-universal remotes will not operate with this strategy. After erasing the memory on your remote, you’ll need to reconnect it to your various devices, such as a DVD player, because the connections between these devices will be reset.

  • Step 1: Hold the SET or SETUP button down. Normally found in the remote control’s top-left corner.
  • Step 2: When the LED light blinks twice, release SET. The LED light on your Vizio universal remote is usually found near the top of the remote.
  • Step 3: Enter the reset code for your remote; most Vizio universal remotes have a 981 or 977 reset code. You can also lookup the reset code in your remote’s instructions.
  • Step 4: Wait until the LED flashes twice. The Vizio universal remote has successfully cleared its memory once it has flashed twice. Any difficulties with the firmware should be rectified as a result of this. Now use your television to fix it.
  • Step 5: Now connect the remote to the television. The perplexing part with Vizio remotes is that they have TWO spots where you can change the remote to operate the appliance you desire. One of the buttons is on the top of the remote control, while the other is on the bottom. Using the BOTTOM, return to TV mode.

Remove any obstructions to the TV sensor

Because the IR sensor on the TV is blocked and cannot receive the IR signal, your Vizio smart TV remote may not work. The TV’s IR sensor is usually found on the bottom left or bottom right of the screen. Even translucent things, such as the protective plastic wrap that comes with new TVs, might block the infrared signal from your remote.

  • Step 1: Locate the TV’s infrared sensor.

  • Step 2: Anything in front of the television should be moved.
  • Step 3: Look for any smudges on the sensor as well. It’s a good idea to use Alcohol to clean the front of the sensor.
  • Step 4: Now hit the “Power” button on the remote and point it at the TV’s IR sensor. Make sure you’re within 10 feet of the TV because IR signals only function up to a certain distance.

Something was obstructing the IR signal if the TV turned on or off.

Change the source of power

“Dirty Power” refers to an abnormality in the power quality given to a device. Voltage changes, low power factors, frequency variations, and power surges are examples of irregularities. If your television is connected to a filthy power source, you may experience Vizio Remote not working.

  • Remove the power cord from the Vizio TV.
  • Move the Vizio TV to a different power source where the power is known to be normal and plug it in.

Electronic Interference should be limited

Electronic devices have become an integral part of our daily lives. This electrical equipment emits various sorts of radiations, which can cause the remote to stop working if these radiations interfere with the IR signal.

  • Step 1: Identify any other electrical devices or lights that are turned on in the “field of view” of the remote sensor’s “window,” including CFLs.
  • Step 2: Turn off or relocate the devices to a different location.
  • Step 3: Cover the IR sensor on the front of the receiver with a piece of blue painter’s tape or plain brown masking tape. The painter’s tape can filter off stray infrared from other devices, allowing the remote signal to pass.

Mobile Apps for Remote Access

Many mobile apps can transform your phone into a remote control. One of these can be used to fix the situation. Check out Universal Remote Apps for more information.

Examine the Batteries

The remote’s functionalities are powered by batteries. The Vizio remote may stop working if the battery power has been depleted, the contact points of the remote have rusted, or carbon (a white substance) has developed over it. Most Vizio remote controls use two AA or two AAA batteries.

  • Step 1: Remove the batteries by popping them out. Batteries are normally inserted into the remote’s slot, which is located at the bottom of the front side or at the rear of the remote.
  • Step 2: Check the connecting point/terminal of the batteries to see if they are rusted or if Carbon (the white stuff) has developed there. If this is the case, clean the points with Alcohol.
  • Step 3: Replace the batteries in the remote control. Make that the batteries are placed correctly, with the positive and negative ends facing the same way.

Conclusion

If your remote still doesn’t work, try using another Vizio remote with the TV, and if the second remote works, replace your remote. The majority of VIZIO remote controls work with the majority of VIZIO televisions. If the other remote doesn’t work with the TV, it’s a good idea to take it to a repair shop to have it looked at.

If the other remote is working properly, replace your Vizio remote since it may have internal or external damage that is preventing it from working properly. You can use another Vizio remote or a universal remote to replace the remote. See more at our Occupychristmas website!
